March 26, 2014. My 80 year old father has had dementia for 2 years now. He is on Namenda for memory loss, but it not helping. He can remember the hangouts he had as a teenager, but he can't remember a grandson's name.

He forgets his wallet half the time. He has lost his credit card twice, but found it later, after he was issued a new one.

He has to write things down in order to help him remember, but he loses the note.

He starts out somewhere in the truck, but then doesn't remember how to get there.

The list goes on.

His reasoning and judgment are impaired

I know it's hard for him because I find him with his head bowed and cupped by his hands.

He has to deal with many afflictions and disorders, as a result of lifetime of smoking and not taking care of himself. Mom died in 1990. He lost his primary caregiver and had to wing it from then on.  He went thru bypass surgery, has sciatica, had pneumonia, heart failure, has COPD, weak muscles, skin problems, vitamin deficiencies, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney problems and more.

It's hard for him, but he doesn't realize it's hard for me too since I am his caregiver now.
